The Chromebook Operating System
The Chromebook operating system is different to what you would find on more traditional based computers. Most traditional based computers typically use either Microsoft Windows or Apple, and these operating systems require a lot of system resource to run.
The Chromebook operating system (Chrome OS) requires much less system resources to run, which means the Chromebook works much quicker at simple tasks like internet surfing.
The Chromebook operating system is much easier to work with than Microsoft Windows or Apple OS. This makes the Chromebook an excellent choice for anyone wanting to access the internet, but don’t want to deal with a temperamental operating system.
This is one of the reasons why Chromebooks have become very popular with the silver surfer and in education. Not having to worry about the operating system allows the user to get to work without the problems that can arise on operating systems such as Microsoft Windows.
Automatic updates that take seconds
If you are familiar with using a Microsoft Windows computer you’ll know how long it can take for updates to take place. Also, after updating your computer can cause other issues. All of these issues take time to fix, and for some people who cannot fix such problems end up having to take their computer to a repair shop.
A lot of the problems relating to updating an operating system are due to the complexity of what the operating system has to deal with. The fact the Chromebook operating system is ultra-lightweight in comparison to Microsoft Windows means you don’t need to worry about such problems.
If you’re using your Chromebook when an update is available this will show in the bottom right menu. You can either choose to update immediately or you can continue working. When you’ve finished using your Chromebook, and providing you’ve powered it off correctly; the update will take place when the Chromebook is next turned on.
Updates usually take between 10 and 30 seconds, which is a huge difference to Microsoft or Apple where updates can take minutes, sometimes even hours. All of this helps make the Chromebook easy to use, and you don’t need to worry about update issues. Any issues that do arise from an update will usually be unnoticeable to the user, and these updates are dealt with swiftly with further updates.
Why is the Chrome OS so lightweight?
There many reasons why the Chromebook operating system runs so smoothly. The main reason is because Chromebooks do not require extensive processing power to work. Another reason is because the Chromebook does not install programs. Installing computer programs can cause a lot of issues, as it’s usually these programs that conflict with your operating system. All the work that you do with a Chromebook will be done from an internet address, so no programs need to be installed directly onto the Chromebook computer.
Another reason is because the Chrome OS is mainly just an internet browser. There isn’t much more to the Chrome OS, and this is the reason why a Chromebook is so easy to use. Understanding how the Chromebook works and how the Chrome OS operates is much easier than understanding a more intense operating system such as Microsoft Windows.
