Microsoft has announced it will no longer support mobile devices for their Windows 10 operating system. Microsoft Windows 10 was intended for use on a computer or mobile device. However, Microsoft has been struggling to get users to choose Windows 10 for their mobile devices.
According to research company IDC, the Windows 10 operating system accounted for just 0.03% of the global market for smartphone shipments during April and June this year.
When Windows 10 was originally launched many phone manufacturers had created phones for the Windows 10 operating system. However, the number of manufacturers making phones for the Windows 10 operating system has reduced in the last year.
In the last couple of weeks HP announced it would no longer support Windows 10, and they had no further plans to bring out phones that were compatible with the failing operating system.
No big surprise
It shouldn’t come as a surprise being that Microsoft founder Bill Gates announced last month that he owned a mobile phone running the Android operating system. This doesn’t show much loyalty for Windows 10, and it shows the Windows 10 operating system is simply inferior to the Android and Apple mobile operating systems.
Where does this leave Windows 10?
This is good news for users who use Windows 10 on their personal computers. As it means Microsoft will now concentrate on providing users with a solid operating system for their PC. Microsoft will no longer need to consider mobile devices when updating the Windows 10 operating system. This should mean Windows 10 users get a more stable operating system, which is specifically designed with personal computers in mind.
Not so good news for Microsoft
Microsoft has been struggling for many years to get into the mobile computing market. It was left behind, as Google and Apple took most of the market share. Microsoft is now facing a situation where they have no operating system in the mobile computing market. This leaves Microsoft in a difficult position, as they cannot afford to be left without a mobile operating system, if they want to be seen as a market leader in mobile technology.
